Rudolph I. Salganik, Ph.D., D.Sc., M.D.
Molecular Genetics, Cellular Mutagenesis, Carcinogenesis, and Hormone Mechanisms
Dr. Salganik is a Research Professor at the Department of Nutrition, UNC-Chapel Hill, where he developed his breakthrough brain cancer treatment, inducing apoptosis in cancer cells by utilizing a special antioxidant-depleted diet. Prior to his emigration from Russia in 1984, Dr. Salganik served as Deputy Director of Research and Head of the Molecular Genetics Department at the Institute of Cytology and Genetics (IC&G) of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Novosibirsk. Dr. Salganik's scientific interests include molecular mechanisms of cellular mutagenesis and carcinogenesis, and molecular mechanisms of hormone activities. He has published 325 scientific papers and holds 15 patents related to the development of therapeutic drugs. He served as a Member of the Steering Committee and Special Advisor to the World Health Organization during 1988-1991, and was a recipient of the two highest awards in the former Soviet Union - Lenin's Prize (1990) and the Soviet Union State Prize (1988). He received his D.Sc. in Molecular Biology from the Institute of Cytology and Genetics, Russian Academy of Sciences in 1966, his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Rostov, Russia in 1958 and his M.D. from Moscow Medical University in 1956. |
