Richard Melker, M.D., Ph.D.
Medical Device Intellectual Property, Technology Transfer
Dr. Melker received his Ph.D. (Neurobiology) and M.D. degrees from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. After a residency in Pediatrics, and fellowships in Pediatric Cardiology and Critical Care Medicine he served as Director of Emergency Services at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida College of Medicine, as well as Medical Liaison for the NASA space shuttle program. He is a Professor of Anesthesiology, Pediatrics and Biomedical Engineering and since 1993 has been Director of the Florida Anesthesiology Computer and Engineering Team (FACET) which develops and licenses medical devices and technologies. Dr. Melker holds 27 issued U.S. patents including emergency medical devices in use throughout the world, and by the U.S. Special Forces. From 1982 to 1986 Dr. Melker was Vice President of Home Medical Monitoring, Inc., one of the first companies to exploit the remote monitoring market. He is presently President of Innovations for Patient Safety, which has licensed technologies developed at the University of Florida by Dr. Melker and colleagues. |
